Abobo's Big Adventure, plus Upcoming MK HD Remix with MUGEN

In case you haven't heart, Abobo's Big Adventure is out, and it is one massive piece of eight-bit heaven. It promises to be the "Ultimate Tribut to the NES," and - while true - it is not 100% exclusively the NES console that it pays tribute to. Case in point, Mortal Kombat references (both of which can be seen below):

This game must be played immediately. It is currently the #1 rated game on Newgrounds, and for good reason. So go play it over there now!

In other news, some folks over at the TRMK forum were a tad disappointed about the cancelled Mortal Kombat Arcade HD Kollection. And who can blame them? Rather than mope and complain about it, they decided to do something about it, and put together their own not-for-profit high-definition. Their thread has already reached over 150 pages, and has even caught the eye of the Mortal Kombat development team, who were impressed by what they saw. Check out the thread now.

One of the contributers, calactyte, has created high-def versions of some of the fonts used in the MK1 arcade game. He has graciously agreed to allow them to be posted here. So without further ado:

No release date has been announced, but you can be sure that the Kombat Pavilion will be following this exciting project.

Comics

Time for a new batch of comics. This time around, it's mostly hand-drawn comics (very few sprite comics), and mostly not from the MK community but from comic artists who happen to be covering Mortal Kombat. This means not only a fresh perspective, but also that MK is being talked about in wider circles. Enjoy!More updates coming at some point in time!

Press Start 2 Continue

As anyone who's been a fan of the Kombat Pavilion for a while knows, this site fully supports Dark Maze Studios and their hilarious video game movie, Press Start.  Today, the sequel, Press Start 2 Continue is available for order on DVD.

If you haven't seen the original yet, it is recommended you pick both of them up.  Besides the appearance of a Sub-Zero-like ninja assassin named Lin-Ku, the appearance of Daniel and Carlos Pesina in the first film (who played Johnny Cage, the palette-swapped ninjas, and the thunder god Raiden in the early Mortal Kombat games), there are numerous other MK references to justify such a purchase.

Also, check out the trailer for Press Start 2 Continue as well!

Let's Play Mortal Kombat Games!

Back in the day (a period of time known as the mid- to late-nineties), one of my favorite things to do on the computer was to play Mortal Kombat-inspired fan-made games, such as Pac Kombat, Pong Kombat, Mortal Kombat Ping-Pong, and more. I have decided to make these games available on the Kombat Pavilion, so that any MK fan can take a look and enjoy these classics:

Of course, it wasn't just old-school fans who would dedicate themselves to making their own game in Mortal Kombat's likeness and image – this still goes on today.  Case in point, Mortal Kombat: Outworld Assassins:

So give these games a shot, it's definitely something fun to do while waiting for Mortal Kombat (2011) to arrive in less than two months' time!  Check out more in the Games Section.

More rumors

To add further fuel to the fire on last week's update, I did a little bit of Google research and was reminded of one more "Super Unlockable" hidden character:

Spreading rumors

Now, it's been quite some time since an article like this was put together, but due to some recent discussion on a popular message board – and the noticable lack of discussion regarding a couple of characters – it seemed like an appopriate topic of discussion.

I am referring to, of course, the numerous fake Mortal Kombat characters that used to be very popular back in Mortal Kombats heyday.  Many magazines used to run stories and print fan letters for fun, discussing characters that never did turn out to be real... although a couple were eventually made canon, after the fact.
