Does Kano Actually Have a Son?

Here's an interesting ending to ponder: Does Kano actually have a son? I mean, sure, Kano's son was shown in Kano's ending in Mortal Kombat X, but endings are non-canon. So it should be up in air.

Not so fast, padre. If Kano does have a son, he must have already him for quite some time, and any parts of endings that reveal previously unknown facts about the past have always been held up as canon.

But, watch the video yourself, see both sides of the debate, and make up your own midn! See you next update, guys.

What's the Deal with Chameleon?

There's not a whole lot of information about Chameleon, so I put together a video showcasing everything there is to know about him:

For this, I busted out copies of MK Trilogy and Armageddon (the only two games where he officially appeared) as well as Ultimate MK3, where he is accessible via a cheat device such as Pro Action Replay. There's not really much else to go by since he's never appeared in any other media (comics, books, movies, TV shows, books, etc.).

There's also a word in here from John Tobias, courtesy of an email exchange between him the MK Encyclopedia team! So thanks for watching, and see you at the next update!

The Chicago Mortal Kombat Tour

I'm a little late sharing this, but this is a must-see! A while back, I came up with the idea of doing a tour around Chicago and visiting all the places that are important to Mortal Kombat. It turns out that Total MK (Luke) had the same idea, and so a number of us hardcore MK fans went around the town doing exactly this - including MK Universe (MK Dan), Team RipSet (Ryan), Fraysol (Fred), Aaron, Jasper, and Nashman Aguilar (one of the artists working on the Kombatpedia project)! So check out the 2-part series here:

Some of the places we visit include:
  • Fantasy Costumes (where all the costumes for MK1/MKII/MK3 were purchased)
  • The publishing house that did the MK1/MKII comic book
  • The KFC where Boon came up with Reptile
  • NetherRealm Studios headquarters
  • The old Midway building
  • Chinatown - the scene of the Courtyard!
  • Times Square Arcade (what's left of it)
  • A forest that was actually the scene of The Living Forest
  • Diversions Arcade (again, what's left of it)
  • The Bridge/The Street
  • The Waterfront

This was an amazing thing to be able to do and it was very exciting to be a part of it. Thanks again to Total MK for editing this together. See you at the next update, Pavilion fans!

The Kombat Kollection of Kombat Pavilion Intros

As hinted at last update, this is the 20-year anniversary of the site - and it's time to celebrate! And what better way to do that, than to put together every single flash intro the Kombat Pavilion has ever had? Because that's exactly what I did here:

Well, be on the lookout for more Mortal Kombat kontent, as always!

Is Reiko Shao Kahn

It's been a long time since I wrote about the Reiko/Kahn issue, so the time has come to revisit this topic.

This month is also the 20-year anniversary of the Kombat Pavilion, so look for a special celebration video about that soon!

The Books that Inspired Mortal Kombat

There's been a few books that have provided inspiration to the Mortal Kombat series over the years. I have taken the liberty of tracking them down, reading them, and making a brief summary for your viewing pleasure. Check it out here:

Here are the books discussed in the video:Feel free to check out any and all of the books mentioned in the video by checking the links above.

In the meantime, I'm getting ready to travel to Kombat-Kon. I've always got more ideas for videos, so stay tuned for further updates!

The Unknown History of Animalities

Here’s a little known fact: In Mortal Kombat 3, most of the live action footage came from a nature documentary series called Predators of the Wild. Well, for the first time ever, you can see the clips from that series and the corresponding Animality, side-by-side! Enjoy:

See you next update, Pavilion fans!

Johnny Cage Movies

It’s about time someone made a comprehensive list of Johnny Cage movies! I scoured 25 years of Mortal Kombat history and put together the complete known filmography of Johnny Cage. Included is every single mention from the games, comics, movies, webseries, and promotional videos over the years to present every title every mentioned. As a bonus, I threw in other actors that Johnny has associated with and even the names of some of the movie studios!

Until the next update, Pavilion visitors!

DC/Injustice Characters Who Actually Fit the Mortal Kombat Universe

Here's a list I made of five characters from the Detective Comics (DC) universe who would actually fit really well into the atmosphere of Mortal Kombat:

MK Movie Q&A

Props to moviedude18 (Kory Davis) for putting together a really exciting event—a showing of the Mortal Kombat movie at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, with a Q&A featuring director Paul Anderson, and actors Chris Casamassa (Scorpion), Robin Shou (Liu Kang), and Linden Ashby (Johnny Cage). It was a blast to be able to meet these guys and participate in the Q&A. A lot of fans participated by wearing Mortal Kombat t-shirts, and a few even cosplayed as their favorite characters. Here are some pictures from the event:

Due to a scheduling conflict, Chris couldn’t stay until after the movie ended. So he got his own Q&A session before it began. You can watch this session here:

After the film ended, the next Q&A session with Paul, Robin, and Linden took place. You can watch it here:

A huge thanks once again to all the cast and crew who were able to attend–especially Linden, whose leg was in a cast following surgery, but he still pushed himself to go for the benefit of the fans. Thanks to the Chinese Theatre for hosting the event. And thanks to Kory for making the whole thing happen!

Character Analysis of the Baddies: Baraka and Reptile

Sorry I got behind on the updates. I posted this Baraka video on YouTube a while back but neglected to update the Pavilion with it. Well, here it is in all of its glory:

Now, after that, check out this newer one, about the many kontradictions of Reptile:

So enjoy these videos and just know I'm always working on more. Well, at least, I've got ideas for more.

Johnny Cage Tattoo T-Shirt Giveaway

You know how, in the last two Mortal Kombat games, Johnny Cage has a tattoo of his own name on his chest?

Well, at some point I realized that would make a great idea for a t-shirt:

So, I am going to give one away to one lucky winner. To enter the giveaway, just watch this video and follow the rules enumerated within:

This contest is open to any and all residents of Earthrealm. Good luck!

The Shujinko Game News

Hello all,

Lots of big news concerning the Shujinko Game. First, YouTube user Lawrence237 has created a Let’s Play going through the entire game:

Let's Play The Shujinko Game

Second, I released a video, showing where to get every Krypt key in the game:

The Shujinko Game - All Krypt Keys

Third, and finally, MK Online user SSMFD translated the entire game into Spanish. That’s right, now the Spanish-speaking community can enjoy El Juego de Shujinko!

So download The Shujinko Game spanish translation here.

See you next update!

More Lore Videos

I've put together a couple more videos about the Mortal Kombat lore. Mortal Kombat has a rich backstory (more than most fighting games) and there are a lot of questions that come up from time to time. The first is about Liu Kang and Kung Lao, and the possibility that they could be brothers/cousins/relatives (or not):

Read the transcript here.

The second one is about the history of Jax's metal arms:

Until next time!

Johnny Cage's Death(s)

Johnny Cage has been killed perhaps more than any other character in the history of the Mortal Kombat franchise. The remarkably resilient actor has shown that death doesn't have to be the end - just think of it as a new beginning. The following video explores all of Johnny Cage's deaths, including not only games but also the expanded Mortal Kombat universe (movies, webseries, and of course, The Live Tour).

Read the transcript here. Enjoy, Johnny Cage fans! See you next update.

Bruce Lee/The Dragon Review

Something a little different today: an unlicensed Famicom game aimed primarily at the Middle Eastern market: The Dragon (a.k.a. Bruce Lee). By Ramar International (a.k.a. Rinco) and Tony Tech. A little unusual in that it features an Arabic language option, as presumably its target market was Middle Eastern.

This game uses Liu Kang sprites to represent Bruce Lee. It also uses other MK characters and renames them to fit the game's "story" (if it can be called that): Scorpion (Suzuki/ninja), Johnny Cage (Ram/King Fighter), Kano (Mr. Tat/Chevalier of the East), Sonya (Alice Yang/Pussycat), and Raiden (Fatek/Iron Mask Man).

Hummer Team's Ture MK3 Review

Today I'm posting my review of the Hummer Team's release of Mortal Kombat 3 on the 8-bit Famicom/NES. There are several variations of this game, so it's alternatively known as Mortal Kombat 3, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat 4, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 4. Full credit goes to the individuals who worked on the game (Juing Long, Alex Yev, and Huei Fan) as well as the companies that had a hand in developing and distributing it (Hummer Team, NT/KaSheng, ABAB Soft, Inc., and Gold Leopard).

Mortal Kombat Mythologies Gold 2000 (SNES) Review

Here's a review of the ultra-rare pirated SNES port of Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, and the full title's a doozy: Mortal Kombat Mythologies Gold 2000. I've been trying to get ahold of this game for years, and have finally managed to do so. Since the game is so difficult to get ahold of, this review is very detailed and explains what it's all about:

When it comes to pirate games of the Mortal Kombat series, it doesn't get much more obscure than this! Enjoy, and see you at the next update.

Mortal Combat 5/Mortal Kombat Mythologies Review

Here's yet another review from me, time it's of the infamous pirate cart of Mortal Kombat Mythologies, often referred to as Mortal Combat 5, for the 16-bit Sega Genesis/Mega Drive:

Dragon Fighter Review

Happy New Year! I'm back, after three years' absence. Here's something a little different from me - a review of a pirate Mortal Kombat game released for the 8-bit Famicom/NES system. Technically not just a Mortal Kombat game, but a crossover as it also includes characters from Street Fighter, Samurai Shodown, Fatal Fury, and DC comics. It can be seen here:

Until next time, Pavilion fans! (Whenever that may be.)

New Screensaver

Merry Christmas, everyone! And just in time for the holidays, here's an excellent winter-themed screensaver:

Hopefully, at some point down the road I'll be able to go back to regular updates. Not any time in the immediate future, but it would be nice to go back to posting comics and animations and stuff.

In the mean time, if any MK fans have any web experience and would like to provide some extra assistance, help would be welcomed. The Kombat Pavilion has pretty much been a one-man show for the last 15 years, so a helping hand might be nice and ensure more frequent updates. :)

Thanks go to DraftMazda for making today's update possible (and by that I mean, actually creating the screensaver).
